Bill to provide for the imposition of an Environment Conservation Levy on households, on identified items imported into or manufactured in Sri Lanka or specified services provided in Sri Lanka, which are likely to have a harmful impact on the environment; to provide for the collection and recovery of such levy; and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Hon. (Ven.) Udawatte Nanda Thero moved with leave of House to introduce the Private Member Bill entitled, ?The Siriniwes Prajamithra Sahayogitha Kendraya (Incorporation)? and the Bill was referred to the Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare under Standing Order No. 47 (5)
Main Business of the House for Today
Resolution moved by the Hon. Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Administration and Deputy Minister of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order that the Proclamation made by the President under Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40), as amended by Act, No. 8 of 1959, Law No. 6 of 1978, and Act, No. 28 of 1988, bringing into operation the provisions of Part II of the aforesaid Ordinance throughout Sri Lanka with effect from 02nd February 2008, was approved.
Accordingly, the Emergency debate was passed by Parliament with a majority of 84 votes, extending it for another month. 103 votes were cast in favour of the motion while 19 votes were against it.
Hon. D.M.Jayaratne, Minister of Plantation Industries moved the consideration of the Bill entitled "Sri Rathanajothi Community Development and Social Foundation (Incorporation)" and it was passed by Parliament.
The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1634 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Thursday 07th February 2008
