Business Passed in the House Today


At commencement of Public Business the Bill entitled “Local Authorities (Special Provisions)” was presented by Minister of Highways and Road Development and the Chief Government Whip on behalf of the Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils as an Urgent Bill, to provide for calling of fresh nominations and the holding of elections in respect of one Municipal Council, five Urban Councils and Twenty-seven Pradeshiya Sabhas in the Northern Province where elections to such council and sabhas have been postponed due to unforeseen and urgent circumstances which was debated and passed by the House.

66 votes were cast in favour and 12 votes were cast against this Bill, when a vote was taken for the same.

Second Reading of the Bill entitled “Sri Rathanajothi Community Development and Social Foundation(Incorporation)” was moved and referred to the Legislative Standing Committee “A”

The House was adjourned at 1535 Hrs
