Answer

(a)          (i)        No.

           (ii)        Not applicable.

          (iii)        Not applicable.

(b)       Even though the Board of Investment has identified a land to establish an Export Processing Zone, the effort taken to transfer the land to the Board of Investment from the land owner was not successful. Further, it is noted that there may be difficulties to establish an Export Processing Zone and maintain it due to encroachers and land permit holders already occupying the larger area of the said land.

However, Hon. Member, steps have been taken to establish a Heavy Metal Industrial Zone as a Strategic Development Project at Sampur to attract foreign investments. Secondly, a land belonging to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority at Kappalturai in Trincomalee has been identified to establish an Export Processing Zone and the preliminary survey is underway.
