Hon. Buddhika Pathirana,— To ask the Minister of Environment,—(1)
(a) Will he admit that—
(i) the catchment area of the Gin Ganga near Heswatta in Gongala is being cleared using machinery;
(ii) a wide road has been constructed up to the top of the Gongala Hill; and
(iii) this has caused a landslide risk in this area in the future?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether measures have been taken to prevent the aforesaid destruction of the environment; and
(ii) if so, of the nature of the measures that have been taken?
(c) Will he also inform this House—
(i) of the reasons for not implementing the order issued through the gazette notification for the addition of two thousand five hundred hectares of land from the Gongala Ecosystem to Sinharaja Forest; and
(ii) of the measures that have been taken to protect the Gongala ecosystem?
(d) If not, why?
