Hon. (Dr.) Rohana Pushpa Kumara,— To ask the Minister of Livestock and Rural Community Development,—
(a) Will he submit to this House—
(i) the number of dairy farmers in the Island;
(ii) the local milk production in the years 2008 and 2009, in litres million ;
(iii) separately, the percentage of contribution to the national milk requirement in each of aforesaid years through the aforesaid milk production ;
(b) Will he state to the House—
(i) the steps taken to empower the dairy farmers economically ;
(ii) the steps taken to increase the productivity of dairy industry ;
(iii) whether there is a plan to implement a special programme to increase the milk production by diary farmers of the estate sector ; and
(iv) if so, what that programme is?
(c) If not, why?
