PARLIAMENT

The inaugural session of the first student parliament of M.D.H. Jayawardana Maha Vidyalaya, Battaramulla was held yesterday (Oct. 26) in the main hall of the College, under the patronage of Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, Acting Secretary General of Parliament.

Mrs. Vijitha Lakshmi Liyanage, the principal of the school, said that it is a pleasure to be able to bring together the student Parliament for the first time in the history of M.D.H Jayawardana Maha Vidyalaya and give the opportunity to develop the leadership skills of the students.

The Acting Secretary General of Parliament, Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, presented the keynote speech on 'Parliament and the Legislative Process'. The knowledge of parliamentary process and traditions was imparted to the student parliamentarians in a simpler way with practical experience. In the inaugural session of the student Parliament, student Chalitha Kumesh was elected as the Speaker and the session was adjourned following the brief comments of the Ministers led by the Prime Minister.

The Acting Secretary General of Parliament pinned badges and presented certificates to the new members of the Student Parliament and books were also presented to the school library.

Media Manager Ms.  Nimmi Hathialdeniya, Zonal Education Director H. W. N. K. Ekanayake and others were present on the occasion which was organized by the Public Outreach section of the Communication Department of Parliament of Sri Lanka.
