PARLIAMENT

A meeting was held today (Sep. 12) between Mr. Andrew Patrick, who was newly appointed as the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Sri Lanka, and Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, the Speaker of Parliament. Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Secretary General of Parliament also attended this meeting.

The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom Mr. Andrew Patrick stated that he hopes to further improve the relations between the Parliaments of the two countries. Moreover, the newly established Sri Lanka - United Kingdom Parliamentary Friendship Association was also taken up for discussion at the meeting held.

Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, the Speaker explained the programs implemented through the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and thanked the United Kingdom for their support.

In addition to the said, discussions were also held between the two parties on matters including parliamentary exchange programs, opportunities for Party Leaders and Members to ask questions in Parliament, Finance Committees and Sectoral Oversight Committees in Parliament.
