Announcements by the Speaker

Deputy Speaker Hon. Ajith Rajapaksa informed the Parliament today (Aug. 24) that the baseless accusations made by some members of the government and the opposition targeting the secretariat and other officers of the Parliamentary staff while carrying out duties in the chamber of the parliament and outside the chamber are unworthy of the dignity of this supreme house.

He pointed out that such activities can lead to the fulfillment of their constitutional responsibility as officers of providing advice and assisting the Honorable Speaker to conduct the affairs in an independent and impartial manner in accordance with parliamentary traditions, practices and procedures, especially in conducting the work of the House. It is also mentioned in the announcement that the members of Parliament are kindly informed to refrain from threats, baseless accusations targeting the officials working in the Parliamentary secretariat.

Furthermore, the Deputy Speaker also informed the Parliament to refer the allegations against the officials to the Hon. Speaker.
