University students from South Korea express their astonishment to the Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, the Deputy Speaker post hearing about free education in Sri Lanka. |

A group of university students from South Korea expressed that they were surprised to hear about the free education in Sri Lanka and believe that the generation of students born from free education will play a special role in building Sri Lanka.
The South Korean university students stated this today (Aug. 17) when they met Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament at the Parliament complex.
The South Korean university students expressing views to the Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, the Deputy Speaker, said that they are happy and surprised as only a very limited number of students get free education in South Korea, but the vast majority of students are still able to get free education from schools in Sri Lanka until they graduate from universities.
The university students from South Korea have come to Sri Lanka to participate in a voluntary program for the children of a school in Shantipura village, Nuwara Eliya.
They were very interested in school education and university education in Sri Lanka and their queries on that regard was answered by Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, the Deputy Speaker.
A group of students from Yonghami, Daegu and Chommung universities in South Korea are a part of this delegation.
This group of students will stay in Shantipura area of Nuwara Eliya for about a week, carrying out activities such as conducting cultural programs, providing training regarding health activities, repairing school buildings, conducting physical wellness programs, and conducting sports competitions.
The students said that the university student community of South Korea is ready to provide support through various activities for the school children of Sri Lanka in the future.
Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, the Deputy Speaker, said that Sri Lanka receives constant support from South Korea in various fields and the friendship between the two countries is further strengthened by the voluntary participation of South Korean university students in such programs.
When these South Korean students came to Parliament to meet Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Choi Sung Woo, Resident Director of Semaul Foundation Sri Lanka, and Min Sung Ho, Officer of the main office of Semaul Foundation in South Korea were also present.
The volunteer program is organized by Saemaul Foundation of South Korea.
This has been supported by the Ministry of Children and Women's Affairs and the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat.
