The inaugural session of the Student Parliament of Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya was successfully held at the College Auditorium on June 28, with the support of the Public Outreach Section of the Communication Department of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
This program was organized with the aim of making the youth aware of the parliamentary system and tradition of a democratic social system, and to give them practical experience.
According to the parliamentary tradition, New Speaker was elected in the inaugural session. After the swearing-in of the MPs and the Ministers, a parliamentary debate was also held, presenting facts related to each subject area.
Mr. H.E.Janakantha Silva, the Director of Legislative Services and Director of Communications (Acting) presented a meaningful speech regarding the legislative process of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, and addressed the student parliamentarians and appreciated their talents.
Public Outreach Officers Ms. Rishmia Nutan and Mr. Rudra Kumar, Public Outreach Coordinator Mr. Jaya Prakash, and Parliamentary Training Officers also participated in this event. Regional Assistant Director of Sociology of Sri Jayawardenepura Educational Zone Mrs. Vasana Hettiarachichi, Principal of Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya Mrs. M. Rupasingha, Deputy Principal Mrs. Kukulawithana and a group of the staff and parents were also present in this event.
At the end of the program, books containing information about parliamentary proceedings were also donated to the school library for the reference of the students of the school.
