The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka H.E. Qi Zhenhong met the Speaker of Parliament Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena recently (24 May).

During this meeting, the Ambassador briefed the Hon. Speaker on the latest developments of the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and China and assured the China’s commitment to further strengthen the Inter-Parliamentary relations, bilateral trade & investment, tourism and education. He also extended gratitude for the Sri Lankan Government for their efforts made in relation to the rescue mission of the capsized Chinese fishing vessel.

The Hon. Speaker whilst appreciating the constant assistance provided by the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka, stated that Sri Lanka is a trustworthy friend in the Indian Ocean who shares common historical Buddhist links and culture and therefore would always stand with China in friendship.

The Secretary-General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera was also present on this occasion.
