The first poppy flower pinned on the Hon. President during the Armed Forces Memorial Day celebration in the Parliament |

Hon. President Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe was presented with the first poppy flower for the armed forces commemorative poppy celebration held to commemorate the soldiers who died in the first and second world wars as well as during civil war conflicts in Sri Lanka over the past thirty years.
Accordingly, as Chief Patron of Sri Lanka Armed Forces and Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association, in conjunction with Armed Forces Poppy Celebration 2022, the president of the association, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, pinned the first poppy flower on the Hon. President.
Thereafter, poppies were also pinned on the Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Parliament Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana. Followed by that, poppy flowers were also pinned on to the Secretary General of the Parliament Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake and Mr. Narendra Fernando, Serjeant-at-Arms.
Officials of the of the Sri Lanka Ex- Servicemen’s Association, Lt. Col. Ajith Siambalapitiya, Major P.K.C. Shantilal Kankanamage, Captain T.M.H. Madugalla, A. Patmasiri and Chulani Sirimevan were also present at this occasion.
