The first phase of the short-term course jointly initiated by the Parliament and the University of Colombo successfully completed |

The short course on Parliamentary Process and Procedures, a collaborative initiative carried out by the Parliament of Sri Lanka and the University of Colombo for the first time in history, successfully completed its first phase recently.
The resource persons for this course, which started for the benefit of the final year students of the Department of Political Science & Public Policy of the University of Colombo, were provided by the senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat led by the Secretary General of Parliament.
Accordingly, the opening ceremony of the course was held at the University of Colombo on the September 16th, and the opening keynote speech was delivered by the Secretary General of the Parliament, Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake.
Recently, on the 29th and 30th, the Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament Ms. Kushani Rohanadheera, Assistant Secretary General Mr. Tikiri K. Jayathilake and Mr. H. E Janakantha Silva, Director of Legislative Services and Acting Director of Communications, delivered lectures.
Commenting at the end of the course, Pradeep Peiris is Senior Lecturer and Lecturer Dhamma Dissanayaka at the Department of Political Science and Public Policy, Faculty of Arts, Colombo University, said that this short course, which presented based on theoretical knowledge of democracy and parliamentary system as well as practical experience in Parliament, was a new experience for university students.
They also pointed out the importance of providing this short course to students studying political science in other universities.
This is the first time that the Parliament of Sri Lanka has initiated such an academic course in collaboration with a university.
