• Parliament will also convene next Wednesday (27)
Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said today that he expects the support of all parties to successfully complete the election to be held tomorrow (20) to select the succeeding president by following the relevant rules.
He mentioned this in the Committee on Parliamentary Business held today (19) morning. The speaker also said that he appreciates the support given by all parties to successfully conduct this process so far within the relevant legal framework.
The Secretary General of the Parliament, Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake, who will act as the Returning Officer of the election held tomorrow, said that before the election, all the necessary guidelines will be informed to the Members of the Parliament according to the Presidential Election (Special Provisions) Act No. 2 of 1981.
Meanwhile, it was also decided in the Committee of Parliamentary Business that the Parliament will convene again on the 27th. It was decided to present the Proclamation on Public Emergency announced by the Acting President under the Public Security Act for approval on that day.
