Presentation of Reports from the Committees

(i)    The Report of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Sustainable Development and Environment and Natural Resources was presented by the Hon. Nihal Galappaththi, member of the Committee on behalf of the Chairperson of the Committee, the Hon. (Mrs.) Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi.
(ii)    The Report of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Business and Commerce was presented by the Hon. Chaminda Wijesiri, member of the Committee on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee, the Hon. Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana.
(iii)    The Committee on Public Finance was presented by its Chairman, the Hon. M. A. Sumanthiran.

Ministerial Statements

(i) Minister of Higher Education and Highways, the Hon. Lakshman Kiriella made a Ministerial Statement regarding the recruitment in North and East for Ministry of Higher Education and Highways

(ii)    Minister of Disaster Management, the Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa replied to the Question raised by the Hon. Douglas Devananda under the Standing Order 23(2) of the Parliament on 07.12.2017 regarding issuing of weather forecast announcements in Tamil by the Meteorology Department


Main Business of the House for Today

(i)    Appropriation Bill (2018) - Committee

Today is the Twenty Fourth Allotted Day of the Appropriation Bill (2018) – “Committee Stage Debate”.

The Appropriation Bill (Budget) 2018 was passed with amendments by the House today, with a majority of 99 votes.

The following Items (appearing as Item Nos. 2 to 23 of today’s Order Paper) were approved by the House:-

(ii)    Notification under the Excise Ordinance
(iii)    Order under the Excise (Special Provisions) Act
(iv)    Thirteen Orders under the Special Commodity Levy Act
(v)    Resolution  under the Customs Ordinance
(vi)    Four Notifications under the Excise Ordinance
(vii)    Resolution  under the Customs Ordinance
(viii)    Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Bill - Division was taken (137 in favour; 49 against)


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1847 Hrs. until 0930 Hrs. on Monday 11th December 2017.
