Ministerial Statements

(i) Minister of Public Enterprise Development, the Hon. Kabir Hashim replied to the Question raised by Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena regarding the Tender issues in regard to the digitalization of the People’s Bank

(ii) Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare, the Hon. S. B. Dissanayake replied to the Question raised by Hon. Douglas Devananda regarding the relief and facilities to be provided by the Ministry of Social Empowerment and Welfare for disabled persons in the North and East

(iii) Minister of Education, the Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam made a Ministerial Statement on providing admission to popular schools for the children of the doctors on transfers


Presentation of Bills

The Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, Minister of Higher Education and Highways and the Leader of the House of Parliament moved the Bill entitled

“Engineering Council, Sri Lanka”

to provide for the establishment of the Engineering Council, Sri Lanka which shall be responsible for the maintenance of professional standards and conduct of engineering practitioners; registration of different categories of engineering practitioners; and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.


Main Business of the House for Today

The following Items (appearing as Item Nos. 1 and 3 of today’s Order Paper) were passed by the House:-

(i) Supplementary Sum—Head 147— Programme 1 (Rs. 592,925,000 the Ministry of Regional Development)
(ii) Order Under the Excise (Special Provisions) Act


Motion at the Adjournment Time

Motion at the Adjournment Time on the “current trade union activities of the labour department” was moved by the Hon. Vijitha Herath.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1923 Hrs. until 1300 Hrs. on Wednesday 21st September 2016.
