Results
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) obtained the most number of seats at the Parliamentary General Election 2020. Other parties to gain seats in Parliament are the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK), Jathika Jana Balawegaya (JJB), Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP), Ahila Ilankai Thamil Congress (AITC), Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Muslim National Alliance (MNA), Thamil Makkal Thesiya Kuttani (TMTK), All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), National Congress (NC), Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), United National Party (UNP) and the Our Power of People Party (OPPP). Date for the Election
The Election Commission, in terms of Section 24(3) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, No. 1 of 1981, has amended the date for the Parliamentary General Election as 05.08.2020. The election date was earlier fixed to 20.06.2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka.
