The Hon. Ihala Medagama Gamage Piyasena was sworn in as a Member of Parliament before the Hon. Speaker to fill the vacancy created in the membership of the Eighth Parliament in pursuance to the judgment of the Supreme Court disqualifying the Hon. (Mrs.) Geetha Samanmalee Kumarasingha to be a Member of Parliament.
