After four decades, large-scale renovations of the Parliament of Sri Lanka commence
Under Cabinet approval, these renovations of the Sri Lanka Parliamentary Complex, taking place after a period of more than 42 years, are being carried out on the instructions of Hon. Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.
The resolution to remove Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon from the post of Inspector-General of Police passed by a majority vote
In accordance with Section 17 of the Removal of Officers (Procedure) Act, No. 5 of 2002, the Resolution presented for the removal of Mr. T.M.W. Deshabandu Tennakoon from the post of Inspector-General of Police was passed by a majority vote in Parliament today (Aug. 05).
Report of the committee of Inquiry appointed by the resolution passed by the Parliament on Tuesday the 08th of April 2025, in terms of Section 5 of the Removal of Officers (Procedure) Act, No. 5 of 2002, to remove the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. T.M.W. Deshabandu Tennakoon from the office of the Inspector-General of Police for misconduct and gross abuse of power of his office in terms of Sections 3(d) and 3(e) read with Section 5 of the said Act

Functions with regard to Government Bills - Committee stage

| 9 | During the Committee of the Whole Parliament, amendments may be moved to a Bill in terms of Standing Orders 54 to 61. The Bills office has to check whether these amendments tally in all three languages and in the case of amendments proposed in terms of a Supreme Court determination under Articles 121 or 122 whether the amendments are in line with the S.C. determination. Further it is the duty of the Bills Branch to see that the Attorney-General's certificate has been received relating to these amendments in terms of Article 77 and Standing Order 38(2). |

When a Bill has been passed after going through the Committee of the Whole House or when the Report of the Select Committee or the Standing Committee has been considered in terms of Standing Orders 66 and 67, the Bills Office has to insert properly the amendments in the Bill proposed in Committees, if any, and compare in all three languages and print the Draft Assent copy (Sinhala and Tamil). After the Draft Assent is approved by the Legal Draftsman, Final Assent copies are printed and forwarded for the Speaker's certificate through the Secretary General or to the President in terms of Article 79 or 80 as the case may be. |

After the Hon. Speaker has endorsed the certificate of the Bill, it is sent to the Government Printer to print the Final Act copies in all three languages. |
