Department of Information Systems and Management

The information and communication technology requirements of the Parliament are managed by the Department of Information Systems Management.

The Department of Information Systems Management was added to the traditional seven departments of the Sri Lankan Parliament in late 2004. The idea of forming such a department originated as a result of the project "Modernizing Parliament for Democracy and Development in Sri Lanka" conducted by the government of Sri Lanka with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank.

Vision

To strengthen the stakeholders via information systems.

Mission

To provide accurate and timely information to the MPP, to support their decision making process.
To empower average citizens with knowledge and information on important issues and Parliamentary decisions.
To enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the secretarial function through effective information management.

The Department of Information Systems and Management is now in the process of implementing an information and communication technology strategy, identified in line with the modernization of Parliament. The Department has already reached certain milestones: Information Technology Awareness Training Program, multilingual website, state of the art communication infrastructure, intranet portal etc. Furthermore, the department is engaged in several other projects with the objective of making its vision a reality.

ICT related parliamentary documents

Further to the recommendations of the Select Committee of Parliament to Assess the Present Condition of the Parliamentary Complex, a Cost Benefit Analysis on the use of ICT in Parliament was prepared by the department in March 2008.
