Department of Catering and Housekeeping

The Parliamentary Complex built in 1982 is considered the jewel of the new administrative capital of Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte.

The maintenance of this massive 518,914 sq. ft. building and its surrounding gardens as well as the provision of catering services are done under the supervision of the Director (Catering and Housekeeping Department).

Housekeeping

The Executive Housekeeper and her staff of 101 are responsible for the daily up keep of the building and the maintenance of its beautiful gardens and ponds. The surrounding area consisting of the Diyawanna lake has been declared a bird sanctuary and is a home to a wide variety of birds throughout the year.

The Restaurants

The Food & Beverages Manager is responsible for the services provided in six restaurants in addition to the Private Dining rooms. The main Members dining room commands a panoramic view of the Diyawanna lake and opens out into the roof gardens on the first floor.

A similar restaurant is situated on the other side of the building for the staff members. Private dining facilities are available for the President, Prime Minister, Speaker and the Secretary General of Parliament while VIP dining for special occasions is arranged on the fourth floor overlooking the main approach road to the Parliament.

The restaurants are serviced by specially trained hotel qualified staff and can serve up to 2000 persons daily.

The Kitchen

The Parliamentary Complex has a centralised kitchen which can cater for up to 2000 people daily. This kitchen supplies food for all outlets and is operated by a team of qualified cooks and their trained staff. They are equipped to provide both western and oriental meals as well as a variety of beverages. The kitchen comes under supervision of a qualified Executive Chef.
