Main Business of the House for Today

The following Motions (appearing as Item No. 1 to 4 of today’s Order Paper) were moved by the House. The following Motions were Passed:-

Implementation of Private Members’ Motions

That this Parliament resolves that Private Members’ Motions moved in Parliament shall be debated within one year and, if approved by Parliament, the Cabinet of Ministers shall sanction them within six months, so that the Private Members’ Motions would be an effective contribution by Parliamentarians.

Creating a healthy society through sports

That this Parliament resolves that a fair system devoid of racism and class divisions shall be drawn up at the government level so as to create a healthy society by encouraging children to take up sports in their childhood itself, to guide children with innate talents to the international level and to bring glory to the country by creating world renowned players.

Granting Justice of the Peace appointments to Indigenous Ayurvedic Doctors

That this Parliament resolves that all the Indigenous Ayurvedic Doctors who have got themselves registered with the Ayurvedic Medical Council should be granted Justice of the Peace appointments as a token of respect to that service, as they render a great service, specially to the rural people, considering it as meeting their social obligation, without expecting money or privilege.

The following motion was Lapsed:-

Implementation of a proper scientific plan for the protection of valuable natural resources of Sri Lanka and their surrounding areas

That this Parliament resolves that a proper scientific plan be implemented to protect and promote the Sinharaja Forest, Kanneliya Forest Reserve, Roomassala Hill, the islands and the mangrove system of Koggala Oya and Madu Ganga, a Ramsar Wetland, which are considered as valuable natural resources not only of Sri Lanka but the whole world, and their surrounding areas.


Following (Incorporation) Bills (appearing as Item Nos. 124 and 125 of today’s Order Paper) were passed by the House:-

• Organization for the Creation of Balana Buddha Statue
• D.M. Dassanayake Social Services and Charity Foundation


Second Reading of the "Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Incorporation)" Bill (appearing as Item No. 126 of today’s Order Paper) was moved by the House and referred to the Standing Committee (Legislative) "B".


Motion at the Adjournment Time

Motion at the Adjournment Time on “Glass of milk for school children in Nuwara-Eliya” was moved by the Hon. Gayantha Karunatileka.


The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned at 1833 Hrs. until 1300 Hrs. on Tuesday 19th June 2012.
